The History of Carvin School

Founded in August 1970, Carvin School started with 23 Students in grades kindergarten through second. Its first home was a rented two-story house in Villa Fontana, Carolina, Puerto Rico. The next school year enrollment reached 90 students, and another two-story house had to be rented. This period in the history of Carvin School is fondly referred to as the era of the “Casitas.”

In 1975, the school was incorporated by the Department of State as a non profit organization. Through the help, counsel, and influence of satisfied parents, the present elementary school known as Main Building was built and inaugurated in August 1976 in Villa Fontana Park.

In the planning stage, the Main Building should have accommodated grades K-12, but at the time of its inauguration the student body had far exceeded anyone’s expectations. So, on several acres of rolling land in Carolina Alta, and temporary classrooms were built to house grades 7-10.

In 1978, the first senior class graduated 12 students. The last graduating class was composed of 88 graduates. “La Finca” as the secondary campus is fondly called, though only five minutes away from Carolina’s biggest and busiest shopping mall is quiet, recessed, and provides a pleasant atmosphere and an environment suited to study in undistracted Concentration.

Permanent classrooms, a pool, two covered basketball courts, a tennis court, and a new Middle School building have since been added.
